A Message From Our President:
Dear Omaha Magical Society Members, 6-27-08
One of our Members, Amanda Horner is looking for a little help. Check
out what she has written to see if you would like to participate in the
walk or perform magic for her.
Sincerely,
Ron Gerard, President
Omaha Magical Society
Hello!
I don't know if I told you this, but I'm the Walk for Inclusion
Coordinator for Conference for Inclusive Communities. The Conference for
Inclusive Communities (CFIC, formally NCCJ (National Conference for
Community and Justice) of the Midlands) is a human relations
organization confronting prejudice, bigotry and discrimination through
educational programs that raise awareness, foster leadership and
encourage advocacy for a just and inclusive society. We reach about 2,
000 people a year with our programs.
This will be our 10th annual walk. The walk does raise money for our
programming, but we do not expect you to raise money for us. We're more
concerned about getting a big chunk of Omaha together in one place to
Walk for Inclusion! Awareness is our main goal in this event. I have
been volunteering with the program since 2001, and just this summer was
hired on to coordinate the walk.
I was wondering if OMS would be interested in participating in the Walk
for Inclusion in two ways:
I would love, love, love it if OSM had a team to walk with us. I am
trying my hardest to get people from all over Omaha to participate. The
couple that I met at the meeting (the man with the white beard and his
wife who was wearing pearls (Denny and Anne?)) said that they attended
our Humanatarian dinner. If possible I'd like to get in contact with
them about maybe being the team captains.
And secondly, we are trying to take the walk and transform it into more
of a Day of Diversity in the next year or so, so this year we are trying
to add more entertainment. I wanted to know if anyone would be
interested in performing at the event. We would have a 20-30 minute slot
for maybe one or two magicians to perform on the stage. It is a family
event, so PG acts only.
The walk itself is on August 31st at Heartland of America park.
Registration starts at 1 and pre-walk entertainment is at 1:30. The walk
is a fast 1.5 miles, and will be followed up by a free concert in the
park by Eagle Seagull, and maybe a food tasting. If OSM does have a walk
team, we would like to have a captain present at our Walk Kick off
Luncheon on July 9th at 11am at Security National Bank. We would need to
know by July 1st if someone will attend the lunch.
If anyone is intersted they can reach me on my cell phone at
402-314-6550, or email me at amanda.likeolikeh@gmail.com
Thanks!

ANNUAL PICNIC NOTICE
Saturday,
August 2, 2008
Hello To All,
The Omaha Magical Society is starting preparations for
our annual family picnic. It will be held at Chalco Hills Park
Recreation area pavilion, 8901 S 154th Street, Omaha, NE on August 2,
2008 at 12:00 Noon. The park is located off Giles Roadd west of 144th
Street. The pavilion is air conditioned so the picnic will be held no
matter what the weather. It is free to OMS members and their families
and invited guests from Boys Town. The club will supply the meat
(chicken) and beverages (Iced Tea & Lemonade). We are asking the members
to provide the side dishes and desserts. The members are asked to bring
some walk-around tricks and a 5 minute stage presentation for the
entertainment of the guests. We will limit the magic show to 50 minutes.
We will have some door prizes for the kids. Greg Schuerman, ( greg@gospelballoons.com)
is assisting me in the running of this event.
Please RSVP me or Greg Schuerman by July 25, 2008 as to
the number of guests you are bringing. We have to know so we can buy
enough chicken. I will also need 2 large drink coolers for the
beverages. If you know where we can borrow them please let me know. We
will need help at the park for setup and clean up.
Magically Yours,
Bob Buczkowski

Society of
American Magicians
Membership:
For those
of you who are not members of our National Society of American Magicians,
please consider joining. The magazine M-U-M (Magic-Unity-Might) contains
many fine articles and tricks. The talented John Moehring, previously editor
of MAGIC magazine, is taking over as the new editor starting with the
January issue. I have seen a sample of John's new format for assembly news,
and it contains photos and up-to-date news of assemblies. He will require
that we send reports within five days after our meeting to keep our report
current.
By
joining the national SAM before December 31st, you will receive a free copy
of a CD, 'Magic from M-U-M.' It contains 1,037 pages of magic including
cards, coins, ropes, children's magic, mentalism and illusions. You can
download your application from the SAM website:
www.magicsam.com or call toll-free
1-888-726-9644. (See ad in the November issue of Genii Magazine, page 56.)
Also your membership makes you eligible to hold office in Omaha Magical
Society. |
